UK Youth Mobility Scheme
Overview
The tier 5 youth mobility scheme enables the participant to live and work in the United Kingdom for up to 24 months.
The exchange program offers a paid placement within a field that is relevant to the participant’s degree level studies, work experience and/or individual desires.
The program may enable students to obtain credit against further educational degree courses. The exchange program is normally a rotational program and will therefore expose the participant to different operational areas within their field. The participant will be expected to complete entry level tasks, but the program enables the participant to learn and understand more complex and supervisory aspects relating to their profession. It is expected that the program will help the participant to learn new skills to be used in future study, work based and training assignments.
Placement fields
Rotational placements within hotels and resorts may incorporate training in; housekeeping, kitchen; food and beverages, restaurant management, reception, facility management, hotel administration and marketing.
Rotational placements with business may incorporate training in; business organisation, design, planning, production, purchasing, sales, marketing, maintenance, stores and human resources.
Placement Locations
Placements are normally made in 3 to 5 star hotels and resorts for both hotel and business students. The companies are located throughout The United Kingdom. Placements in central London are normally unpaid.
Placement Duration
Placements are available for a minimum of 6 months to 24 months maximum and may not be extended beyond the 24 month period.

Placement Particulars
Stipend rates vary but participants can expect to receive minimum ?6.70 per hour x 35-40 hours per week. This may vary between different establishments. Overtime rates also vary and may be available during busy periods. National minimum wage rates are reviewed annually.
Accommodation and meals: The vast majority of placements offer live-in accommodation where participants are housed in staff housing or rooms within the hotel itself that offer all the standard facilities expected. Deduction for accommodation and meals per month would be approximately ?300.00 - ?400.00 per month. In some areas the cost of live-out accommodation is normally more.
National Insurance is mandatory and is automatically deducted from your wages every month and covers you for dental, doctor and hospital treatments. Participants are advised to take out personal health, medical and travel insurance cover additionally.
Income Tax is payable every month at a rate of approximately 20% of the candidate’s salary.

Travel particulars
Airport Transfers from the nearest airport or train station are sometimes offers by host properties, but participants should calculate approximately ?50.00-?100.00 cost.
Flights & Visas are payable by the participant.
Uniforms are not normally provided by the host property.
Program Eligibility
Nationality: You can apply for a Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) visa if you’re aged 18 to 30 and you’re from:
- Australia
- Canada
- Japan
- Monaco
- New Zealand
- Hong Kong
- Republic of Korea
- Taiwan
You can also apply if you’re 18 to 30 and a:
- British overseas citizen
- British overseas territories citizen
- British national (overseas)
General: You can’t apply if you have:
- children who live with you
- children you’re financially responsible for
- already been in the UK under the scheme or in the former ‘working holidaymaker’ category
Money
You must have ?1,890 in savings.
Sponsorship: citizens of Hong Kong, the Republic of Korea and Taiwan
You must get a certificate of sponsorship reference number before you apply from your government.
A certificate of sponsorship is a unique reference number that holds information about the job you will do and your personal details. It’s not a certificate or paper document.
You must apply for your visa within 3 months of receiving your certificate of sponsorship.
Previous work experience: Preferred but not essential
English Language skills: The participant must have an understanding of the English language to at least intermediate level.
Other language skills: Participants must also detail knowledge and understanding of any other languages in their CV that may be of use to the host property.
Timeframe
Placement should normally be approved within 4 weeks from registration.
Work Permit not required
Visa should normally be secured within 4 weeks from work permit approval.
Safety Money / Emergency maintenance funds
We suggest that you hold Euro ?500.00 emergency funds at any given time.
Internship Verification
Your college or university may assign an internship verifier. The supervisor of your internship with is detailed on the training plan. Together you will be able to complete tasks in line with the program requirements.
