International Experience Canada (IEC) provides young individuals the opportunity to travel and work in Canada. IEC is available in countries that have a bilateral youth mobility arrangement with Canada.

Working Holiday

Fund your vacation with temporary work in Canada. The work portion of your trip lets you earn money so that you can fund your travels during your stay. It is a great way to afford side trips, other excursions and accommodations while you are in Canada.

Young Professional

Gain Canadian professional work experience to better compete in a global economy. Widen your career horizons by working on teams from diverse cultural backgrounds, learn new approaches to doing business, experience a different country and learn another language.

Placement fields

Rotational placements within hotels and resorts may incorporate training in; housekeeping, kitchen; food and beverages, restaurant management, reception, facility management, hotel administration and marketing.

Rotational placements with business may incorporate training in; business organisation, design, planning, production, purchasing, sales, marketing, maintenance, stores and human resources.

Placement Locations

Placements are normally made in 3 to 5 star hotels, restaurants and resorts for both hotel and business students. The companies are located throughout Canada.

Placement Duration

Placements are available for a minimum of 3 months to 24 months maximum (depending on your nationality) and may not be extended beyond the 24 month period.

Placement Particulars

Stipend rates vary but participants can expect to receive approximately $10.00 per hour x 35-40 hours per week. This may vary between different establishments. Overtime rates also vary and may be available during busy periods.

Accommodation and meals: The vast majority of placements offer live-in accommodation where participants are housed in staff housing or rooms within the hotel itself that offer all the standard facilities expected. Deduction for accommodation and meals per month would be approximately $300.00 - $400.00 per month. In some areas the cost of live-out accommodation is normally more.

National Insurance is mandatory and is automatically deducted from your wages every month and covers you for dental, doctor and hospital treatments. Participants are advised to take out personal health, medical and travel insurance cover additionally.

Income Tax is payable every month at a rate of approximately 20% of the candidate’s salary.

The figures outlined above may be subject to charge.

Travel particulars

Airport Transfers from the nearest airport or train station are sometimes offers by host properties, but participants should calculate approximately $50.00-$100.00 cost.

Flights & Visas are payable by the participant.

Uniforms are not normally provided by the host property.
